Purpose and Conviction

Chariots of Fire is a rousing movie based on the true story of two British athletes competing in the 1924 Summer Olympics.  The movie centers on Eric Liddell who sees running as a way of glorifying God before traveling to China for missionary work.  A monumental scene, crescendos, when his sister accuses him of being distracted with running and not focusing on his mission (purpose) and calling ….

Eric responds to his sister with this inspiring line ….

I believe that God made me for a PURPOSE …. but He also made me FAST, and when I run, I feel His pleasure.

Irene’s “cold” symptoms are slowly diminishing with our conclusion becoming one that she has a bacterial infection and the antibiotics were a treatment bulls eye.  After a slow start this morning, her energy improved after Shirley Churchill worked with her for two hours on physiology techniques.  Irene’s joyful smile remains through it all ….

The convergence of Liddell’s purpose and conviction gave him clear focus related to how he lived his life.  Walking in obedience to his purpose and conviction allowed him to “feel His pleasure”.

The JOY indwelling Irene’s heart, despite the hardship, endures because she lives her focused life with purpose and conviction, the ultimate goal of which is to glorify her Lord, thus she walks in obedience and feels His pleasure …. even as she faces the colossal adversary named Primary Amyloidosis.
