This morning Irene’s UCSF Kidney Transplant team were ALL SMILES and thrilled with the progress being made. Irene has already walked the hallways for more than 1/2 mile today! Her first walk was before 6 am. More learning today — still targeting discharge tomorrow afternoon … YAY!!!

UCSF RN Gertrudes Fernandez has served Irene on two 12 hours shifts … yesterday & today. She’s one of the AMAZING nurses at UCSF Medical Center – those who give of their lives to save lives. We are forever grateful.

Irene is pictured with FLO, the amazing UCSF RN for the shift tonight from 7 pm through 7 am tomorrow morning. Originally from Kenya, FLO is a follower of Jesus and prayed for Irene. What a blessing…!

It was a full day of learning from the UCSF kidney transplant team focused primarily on the regiment of anti-rejection meds that will be part of Irene’s everyday life. It was a plethora of drug information: types, frequency, duration, side effects and the importance of never missing one protocol because of weekly labs to measure and evaluate kidney function. Irene will be scheduled for weekly trips to UCSF until stabilization if achieved. Early this morning she was still recovering from anesthesia and heavy pain meds but was on her feet walking @ 7.45 a.m. This evening she’s making great progress. Her liquid diet today hopefully transitions to solids tomorrow.
