Uncle Art

Uncle Art

Today we celebrated the life of the late Arthur L. Silva, (affectionately known as Uncle Art) February 18, 1919 – September 28, 2009, in Atwater, CA.  His widow, Mary (my dad’s sister), is pictured below with Irene.

Our quick trip was possible because it’s a non dialysis day for Irene.  It was deeply meaningful to see part of our family.  Irene came home exhausted and nauseated but you would never know it by her signature smile ….!!!

I am sitting with three of my most favored Aunts, Mary, Louise and Carmel, all sisters of my dad.  They have been soooooo good to our family over the years …. we absolutely adore each one of them ….!!!  Aunt Mary’s caregiver is in the background perusing the book, Irene’s Journey of Faith.

Irene enjoyed visiting with Aunt Louise and Aunt Carmel in the chapel.

Irene and I have always appreciated the energy and enthusiasm of Lena Mendoza, Aunt Louise’s daughter and my first cousin ….!!!

Thanks for caring,
Dave

APU Highlight!

As mentioned in the last update, last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I attended Azusa Pacific University Board of Trustee meetings.  The agenda was full and the relationships at the board and executive level filled my soul.  The students are always inspiring and their smiling faces are full of hope and optimism.  These young people are passionate about all they’re endeavoring to prepare for and accomplish in their lifetime.

As we concluded the meetings Friday afternoon, President Jon Wallace felt prompted to pray for Irene and Debra Ross, the wife of Todd, who is inflicted with brain cancer.  JoAnna and I had sat with Todd and Debra the evening before at dinner where we were inspired by their testimony of HOPE, OPTIMISM and deep FAITH and TRUST in God.

President Wallace asked Todd, JoAnna and me to gather in the middle of the room where approximately 50 people gathered around us, layed hands on us, and Dr. Raleigh Washington prayed.  Dr. Washington, the President/CEO of Promise Keepers prayed in earnest for the healing of Irene and Debra…then prayed for JoAnna, Todd and myself.

It was a powerful experience that we’re grateful for.

Thanks for caring,
Dave

The New Reality

We’re calling this last week the “new reality”.

In other words, I spent several days in S. Cal traveling for business and attending Azusa Pacific University Board of Trustee meetings.

Irene had dialysis M,W,F, and she experienced both good and more difficult days facing chronic fatigue and nausea.

This next week looks like more of the “new reality”.

Thanks for caring,
Dave
