Dr. Rachel Fogel removed Irene’s access port from her neck today as matters were finalized for Irene’s discharge from UCSF!!! It’s an amazing journey with many lessons being learned. We met some incredible people at all levels of the UCSF organization and are grateful for their knowledge and caring attitudes!!! There are so many more who need acknowledgement related to supporting us throughout this challenging time. Hopefully we will be able to do so in the days ahead.

After departing UCSF, Irene and I picked JoAnna up at SJC and arrived home where Jocelyn had purple balloons and a “Welcome Home” banner in place! Jocelyn had already done a grocery store run so we’re already somewhat organized. Jocelyn and JoAnna are now scurrying around the house unpacking and re-organizing our home as Irene rests in the great room overlooking a breathtaking sunset on the Monterey Bay. It feels so good to be home and together!!!!
We know that the next few months are going to be critical for Irene’s full healing and recovery. This includes lots of REST. It involves KIDNEY DIALYSIS three days a week as we wait in expectation for the kidneys to wake up and start functioning on their own. We’ll also be traveling to UCSF at least once a week for CLINIC where they will be monitoring Irene’s need for blood and/or platelets, as well as monitoring her LIVER function.
Thank you for your many expressions of care and concern and stay tuned for more progress reports!!
