Heaven

8 p.m.

Do you believe in Heaven?

If so, do you ever daydream about it?

If so, do you actually believe that you’ll live in Heaven with God FOREVER?

If so, why is it that if we’re going to spend FOREVER at this destination, that we don’t hear much about it?

I have devoured Randy Alcorn’s book, HEAVEN, ever since it was released in 2003. Almost every line on every page is highlighted. Randy is one of the most well respected authorities on Heaven. He has helped me understand Heaven with a new filter of understanding.

For instance, he writes:

What we assume about Heaven: What the Bible says about Heaven:
Non Earth New Earth
Unfamiliar, otherworldly Familiar, earthly
Disembodied Resurrected (embodied)
Foreign Home (all the comforts of home wit hall the innovations of an infinitely creative God)
Leaving favorite things behind Retaining the good; finding the best ahead
No time and space Time and space
Static Dynamic
Nothing to do A God to worship and serve; a universe to rule; purposeful work to accomplish; friends to enjoy
No learning or discovery An eternity of learning and discovering
Boring Fascinating
Loss of desire Continuous fulfillment of desire
Absence of the terrible Presence of the wonderful

Randy goes on to write …. “What we have assumed about Heaven has been reduced to a place we look forward to only as an alternative to an intolerable existence here on the present Earth. Only the elderly, disabled, suffering, and persecuted might desire the Heaven we imagine. But the Bible portrays life in God’s presence, in our resurrected bodies in a resurrected universe, as so exciting and compelling that even the youngest and healthiest of us should daydream about it.”

Perhaps some of your thinking falls on the left side of the column above. Mine did for a long time. Randy’s insights have helped me a great deal and I hope they are helpful to you. I highly recommend the book!!

Irene was able to hold down two small meals today …. a wonderful victory! Betty Fairhurst helped Irene around the house today while I worked. Their years together at Monte Vista Christian School has created a strong bond of friendship.

Irene has felt “good” all day. Another wonderful victory and we thank God for it!!! In fact, this is probably the best day she has had since being home!!! It’s very encouraging to write this GREAT REPORT to you!!!

Irene and I have talked about HEAVEN many times since Randy’s book was published …. mostly pre-dating the Amyoidosis diagnosis. We discuss Heaven not because we’re anxious to get there …. because we’re not!!!! :} We simply want to know more about the place where we will spend FOREVER, knowing that only the Lord is our light and our salvation.
