Flat Tire

Flat Tire

Learning and lessons can come to us in all forms ….

Gloria Gaither wrote a wonderful children’s song ….

My Father’s Angels

I could never stray so far
My father would lose track of where I am
Angels walk beside me
Holding tightly to my hand

Refrain:
They’re all above me
Beneath me
Before me
They’re all around me
My Father’s angels
All protect me everywhere

Even when the night’s so dark
I just can’t see a thing in front of me
I won’t need to worry that they see me

Refrain

While driving herself to dialysis treatment this morning, Irene knew that the car wasn’t driving well but couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the problem was coming from.  We conferred on the cell phone since I was in the Silicon Valley (75 miles away) and agreed that she could carefully drive the car home on back roads avoiding the freeway and to call me if any complication developed.

She completed dialysis and began driving home only to discover that a flat tire was the culprit.  It just so happened that where she pulled to the side of the road and examined the car was directly across the street from a tire repair shop!!  As she was watching the crew replace the flat tire with the spare she noticed another tire repair shop right next door!!  She immediately thought of Gloria Gaither’s song and rejoiced in God’s provision and protection.  She safely drove home and relaxed for the balance of the day.

We know “all things work together for good, for those who love God and are called to his eternal purposes.” (Romans 8:28)

Yes, learning and lessons can come to us in all forms …. even from a flat tire.

Great is Thy Faithfulness!

Great is Thy Faithfulness!

It’s a new day!!!!

The lyrics of this wonderful hymn, Irene’s favorite, give perspective to her journey of faith, giving “strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow” ….

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Irene was out of the house early this morning with a focused “GPS bearing” toward the mall and later met Phyllis Cauwels at Starbucks for her customized “tall, soy, green tea latte, no melon, no water and 4 scoops of tea”!!!

At home she wrapped Christmas gifts and thoroughly enjoyed the rainy, windy and foggy day on the bay!!!  Irene’s nausea held at a low roar and she made a feast for two …. a very delicious turkey breast dinner with home-made stuffing and veggies …. Yum …. !!!

For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.
Psalm 117:2a

It’s a new day …. presenting a fresh opportunity to appropriate our faithfulness to Him …. because He is first faithful to us.

Well Wishes from Reed Jolley

Irene / Dave:

I’m sorry for the news you received today. . . and I’m praying for you.

Today is the 300th birthday of Charles Wesley, the 18th child of Suzannah Wesley.  What a gift #18 was to all of us.  I thought I’d drop the complete lyrics of one of my favorite of his hymns to you today.

May God bless you and keep you!

And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood!
Died he for me? who caused his pain!
For me? who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
That thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be
That thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

‘Tis mystery all: th’ Immortal dies!
Who can explore his strange design?
In vain the firstborn seraph tries
To sound the depths of love divine.
‘Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.
‘Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left his Father’s throne above
So free, so infinite his grace!
Emptied himself of all but love,
And bled for Adam’s helpless race.
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free,
For O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned sprit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed thee.

Still the small inward voice I hear,
That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near,
That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven.
I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.
I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel the Savior in my heart.

No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in him, is mine;
Alive in him, my living Head,
And clothed in righteousness divine,
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,
And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
