Without question, the single, GREATEST example of SUFFERING is found in the God-Man, Jesus. He demonstrated to the world not only what it looks like to suffer greatly, to the point of death on a cross, but also, in so doing, what it looks like to demonstrate His amazing love for all humankind.
But he (Pilate) had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
Matthew 27:26bThey stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.
Matthew 26:28-31

Irene had a relaxing day, getting out of the house early this morning to run several errands and then resting for the balance of the day. With the longer evenings, we were able to take a walk along the beach at dusk. The air was clear and cool so she was definitely bundled up!!

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
I have consistently blogged about the significant degree of suffering that Irene has courageously faced on her journey of faith. Our single greatest example, of suffering, however, is Jesus, who bore our sins on a tree to free us from the bondage of this world. In so doing, he models for us how to courageously face suffering, how to appropriate the love demonstrated to us by his suffering, and promises that through His wounds, we are healed.
