Where is our trust …. and what are our priorities…??
What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
Matthew 16:26
According to Wikipedia ….
The S&P 500 index was created in 1957, but it has been extrapolated back in time. The first S&P index was introduced in 1923. Prior to 1957, the primary S&P stock market index consisted of 90 companies, known as the “S&P 90”, and was published on a daily basis. A broader index of 423 companies was also published weekly. On March 4, 1957, a broad, real-time stock market index, the S&P 500, was introduced. This introduction was made possible by advancements in the computer industry which allowed the index to be calculated and disseminated in real time.

Stocks rebounded Tuesday, a day after the markets suffered a historic sell-off, on growing expectations that lawmakers will salvage a $700 billion rescue plan for the financial sector. But the seized-up credit markets where businesses turn to raise money showed little sign of relief.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose almost 500 points, helping to repair some of the Dow’s 778-point decline Monday following Congress’ rejection of a plan to mend the financial sector.

Irene certainly understands sweeping high highs and low lows on her journey of faith. She is RICH towards God, has perfect PEACE in her heart and an unshaken trust and confidence in Him.
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he (or she) trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3
Irene also rests in the promises of Psalm 46:
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Long term stock market performance and economic stability are important to all of us, but we’re not to be consumed by it nor ever trust in it. Wall Street and Main Street are literally fused at the hip. Perhaps some who measure security and success by their financial portfolio are regretting it today.
Despite the high highs and low lows of the financial markets, our hope, security and provision come from God and from Him alone.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
1 Timothy 6:17What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
