5 p.m…
Irene is running a 101.4 fever; her white blood count (WBC) is very low, she has cold symptoms and is on an antibiotic. Her body is very achy…she said that even her teeth ache. We saw her primary care physician following dialysis and she’s resting this afternoon. She will have a blood test done tomorrow (part of which was done today) and we were told that if her symptoms worsen she’ll need to be hospitalized. If we have to go down that path, we’ll be back at UCSF…
Thanks for praying,
Dave
According to Wikipedia ….
“Second wind” is a phenomenon in distance running, such as marathons or road running, whereby an athlete who is too out of breath and tired to continue suddenly finds the strength to press on at top performance with less exertion. Some scientists believe the second wind to be a result of the body finding the proper balance of oxygen to counteract the buildup of lactic acid in the muscles. Others claim second winds are due to endorphin production, while still others believe it to be purely psychological.
Documented experiences of the second wind go back at least 100 years, when it was taken to be a commonly held fact of exercise. The phenomenon has come to be used as a metaphor for continuing on with renewed energy past the point thought to be one’s prime, whether in other sports, careers, or life in general.
Irene is running a low grade fever and has cold symptoms. She’s achy in all of her bones. She did venture to the store early this morning and was still able to enjoy the Wisteria Garden this afternoon. She faded very early this evening.
Her nausea persists …. but she’s still smiling through it all ….!! What an amazing attitude …. thanks for praying.
Metaphorically, Irene is definitely running a marathon. We hope for a miraculous “second wind”. Whether it’s “spiritual lactic acid” or the production of endorphins, we wait for a new release of energy which will bring about long term good health, complete healing and restoration.
