Renewed in Him

Sometimes the reality of a person’s circumstances may cause one to cry out as the psalmist…

“How long, O Lord?  Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts…”

Psalm 13:1-2a

Irene had a mixed day…feeling emotionally “up” for some portion of the day and emoting with weariness for other parts of the day.  She was ambitious early working in the yard and enjoying the fresh air; within an hour she was fatigued and nauseated.

Shirley Churchill spent about 2 hours with Irene this afternoon working on physiology techniques designed to energize her and wake up the kidneys.  Irene later worked in the yard again, thoroughly appreciating the smell of clean soil.

Later in the day Irene did feel good enough to dine at the Little Tampico Restaurant.

Graham Scroggie affirmed, “There are great days, days of decisive battles, days of crisis in spiritual history, days of triumph in Christian service, days of the right hand of God upon us.  But there are also idle days, days apparently useless, when even our prayer and holy service seem a burden.  Are we, in any sense, renewed in these days?  Yes, for any experience which makes us more aware of our need of God must contribute to spiritual progress…”

As Irene endeavors to walk faithfully through each day, some days are more physically and emotionally challenging than others.  She is comforted, however, knowing that Almighty God is with her and in her to strengthen and encourage her…and who personally renews her as she becomes more intimately aware of her need for Him.

Irene’s Journey of Faith

Irene did very well while I was in Washington DC with clients last week.  Her sister, Jane, stayed with her while I was gone.  Irene drove herself to and from dialysis and was able to enjoy the days, nausea, notwithstanding.  She came home yesterday dreadfully exhausted from dialysis and took an extended, 2+ hour nap.  She is gaining some weight, however, weighing in at a whopping 109 pounds!!

We also just received the first PROOF copy of Irene’s Journey of Faith.  Obviously there are a few eleventh hour edits but it’s exciting to see the actual book and have one in hand!!  We’re still on schedule for the book’s release in February!!!!

Thank you for your continued support!!!!

Words

Words

As we wait patiently (or impatiently!!!) for the amyloid’s retreat into remission, I was thinking of words describing Irene’s spirit and came up with just a few ….

Persevering
Determined
Patient
Strong
Resilient
Courageous
Mentor
Heroine
Optimistic
Hopeful
Humble
Servant
Giving
Caring
Meek
Unassuming
Modest
Unpretentious
Discreet
Disarming
Transparent
Loving
Tender
Devoted
Kindhearted
Gentle
Hospitable
Faithful
Joyful
Victorious

However, trudging along Irene’s treacherous journey, what words DON’T describe her?

Bitter
Harsh
Angry
Cynical
Sarcastic
Complaining
Negative
Pessimistic
Blaming
Selfish
Defeated
Depressed

And why doesn’t she characterize those attributes?

I’ve heard it said that in order to live ABOVE one’s circumstances, our ATTITUDE determines our ALTITUDE.

Irene’s attitude and altitude are “beyond this world” ….

for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

1 John 4:4b

Many words accurately describe Irene’s spirit; her prevailing attitude, however, is one of UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER and LOVE for the One who is beyond this world.
